A mobile service was held in Pungudutivu under the theme ‘Journey Towards Development – Pungudutivu 2025’.

The national initiative ‘The Nation United’ against deadly drugs was launched today by His Excellency The President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. We must also make proper use of this to completely eradicate deadly drugs in our region. This is a good opportunity to protect the younger generation from it, stated the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

Based on the principle of people-oriented administration, the meeting being conducted by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, under the theme ‘Journey Towards Development – Pungudutivu 2025’, was held on Thursday – 30th October 2025, at the Vada Ilankai Sarvodaya Conference Hall in Pungudutivu.

In this meeting, the people of Pungudutivu raised various issues. Matters including road repairs, sea transportation, and jetty reconstruction were highlighted. Relevant officials responded regarding the reconstruction of roads owned by the Road Development Authority and the Road Development Department. It was reported that, on a priority basis, 10 out of the 139 local roads, particularly those owned by the Pradeshiya Sabha, have been proposed for repairs. Discussions were held on reconstructing them next year. Attention was drawn to the issue of water supply pipes being installed but no water being provided.

Various matters, including the needs of the hospital and additional requirements for banking services, were also discussed. Education, in particular, was deliberated upon for a long time. Problems faced by schools, teacher shortages, and other issues were pointed out. Especially regarding the pros and cons of clustering schools in the future and sharing staff, various opinions were presented in today’s discussion.

Issues such as students engaging in sports during school hours and involving in anti-social activities were also highlighted. Responding at this point, the Governor noted that through the drug eradication campaign launched under the President’s leadership, this can be controlled in our region as well, and added that significant changes can be observed in police operations too.

In this public meeting, the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Governor’s Secretary, Secretaries of Ministries, the Divisional Secretary, the Hon. Vice Chairman of the Pradeshiya Sabha, the Secretary of the Pradeshiya Sabha, Heads of Departments, and many others participated.
