The Governor was informed that the Sri Lanka Farmers Entrepreneurs Association plans to establish procurement centers in the Jaffna district this November. The initiative aims to help farmers receive fair prices for their products in a non-exploitative manner by utilizing modern information technology.
A discussion between representatives of the Sri Lanka Farmers’ Entrepreneurs Association and officials led by the Northern Provincial Governor was held at the Governor’s Secretariat on Thursday, 9th of October 2025.
Through an integrated approach called “GoVimart”, the Sri Lanka Farmers Entrepreneurs Association is working toward a sustainable solution for agricultural production while empowering farmers to become entrepreneurs. This initiative is being implemented using a modern information technology system based on blockchain design, which has already been successfully adopted internationally.
As part of this effort, the organization is now expanding its services to the Northern Province. In this regard, it has conducted field visits and discussions with various stakeholders — including farmers and agricultural companies — in collaboration with the Northern Provincial Ministry of Agriculture and the Northern Provincial Department of Agriculture.
During the discussions held at the Governor’s Secretariat, the Governor was briefed on the initiative and assured that its implementation would help farmers secure stable prices for their produce. It was highlighted that the use of modern technology throughout the process—from production to sales—would enhance efficiency and transparency.
The Governor was also informed that two procurement centers are planned to be established in the Jaffna District by next month.
The meeting was attended by the Northern Province Chief Secretary, the Governor’s Secretary, the Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Director of the Department of Agriculture, the Deputy Director of Agriculture for Jaffna District, and the Assistant Commissioner of the Department of Agricultural Services.
