A walk will be held under the guidance of Governor of Northern Province today (11) to mark Northern Province Road Safety Week am from Governor’s Secretariat to Jaffna Duraiyappa Stadium.
The Road Safety Week is jointly organized by Governor’s Secretariat, Road Safety Council, Road Passengers, and Transport Authority to control the road accidents in the province.
The walk will commence today at 9.00 am in all districts of the Northern Province under the patronage of respective District Secretaries.
The several activities have been organized throughout the province to create awareness among the public about road safety such as street-dramas, school-level speech competitions, establishing students’ traffic unit at schools, short films, snippets, felicitating best drivers, selecting police station with fewer accidents cases, body fitness checkups for government servants, and displaying police models in accident-prone areas.
Chairman of Road Safety Council, Chairman of Northern Province Transport Authority, Director of Road Development Department, Commissioner of Motor Traffic Department, Senior DIG of Northern Province and Police Officials will also participate in this walk.
To mark Road Safety Week, a blood donation event will be held today from 8.00 am to 4.00 pm on the first floor of the Rehabilitation Centre of Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
It should be noted the Northern Province Road Safety week is celebrated from the 7th of October to the 13th of October.
