First time in history, a newly established Eye Surgery Unit was ceremonially declared open in Kilinochchi by the Government Agent of Kilinochchi District Sundaram Arumainayagam on 22nd March 2019.
In past, the patients of Kilinochchi had to go to Colombo and Jaffna districts for their eye treatments and surgeries.
As per the request made by the Director of the Kilinochchi General Hospital Dr. T. Kandeepan, the Eye Surgeon Dr. Kiritharan was appointed to Kilinochchi Hospital recently. Subsequently a new Eye Surgery Unit was also established and opened for public use. Now eye-surgeries have been started.
Secretary of the Provincial Health Ministry S.Thiruvakaran, Provincial Director of Health Services Dr.A.Ketheeswaran, Director of Jaffna Teaching Hospital Dr.T.Saththiyamoorthy, doctors and nursing staffs also participated in the event.
