Preparatory Discussion for the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, Chaired by the Hon. Governor

A preliminary discussion on the orderly conduct of the events to be held in Jaffna on the occasion of the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances was held today – on Monday (17 August 2026) at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

The Office on Missing Persons has organized events in the Jaffna and Matara Districts to commemorate the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances this year. Accordingly, the discussion focused in detail on the arrangements for the event to be held in the Jaffna District, as well as the activities and initiatives being undertaken by the Office on Missing Persons in connection with the event.

Discussions were also held on the necessary coordination and preparatory measures to ensure the smooth and effective conduct of the event in Jaffna District, which is expected to bring together people from the Northern and Eastern Provinces.

The discussion was attended by the Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, the Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Justice, the Executive Director of the Office on Missing Persons, a member of the Executive Council, the Regional Coordinator and an Investigation Officer.

In addition, the Coordinating Officers of the Chairman of the Jaffna and Kilinochchi District Coordination Committees, the District Coordinators of the Clean Sri Lanka Task Force, the Personal Secretary to the Governor of Northern Province and the Coordinating Secretary to the Minister of Justice also participated in the discussion.
