The inauguration of the Kurikadduvan Jetty Reconstruction Project marks the realization of a long cherished dream of our people, – Hon. Governor.

The government led by His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is demonstrating an unprecedented level of commitment to the development of the islandc region. Significant progress beyond what thed people here had anticipated is expected in the near future, and these positive changes will soon be felt by the community, said the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

The inauguration ceremony for the reconstruction of the Kurikadduvan Jetty funded with Rs. 984 million from public tax revenue through the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development was held today – on Wednesday, 22 April 2026, with the special participation of Hon. Bimal Rathnayake.

Speaking at the event, the Hon. Governor further stated:
“The reconstruction work of the Kurikadduwan Jetty the main transport link to the offshore islands of the Northern Province has commenced today, marking the realization of a long standing dream of our people. In particular, the people of Nedunthivu, who have long faced significant difficulties in mooring their boats at this Jetty, will now benefit from a permanent solution.”

The current government, led by His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, has been giving focused attention to sthe development of the island region since assuming office. Particular priority has also been placed on road reconstruction in these areas.

The Kurikadduvan Jetty is currently undergoing reconstruction, and the government is expected to take concrete steps in the near future to redevelop the Nedunthivu Jetty as well.

This jetty is being reconstructed at a cost of Rs. 984 million, funded by the public tax revenue. In the past, such large scale development projects were typically carried out with foreign loans or assistance. However, they are now being implemented using the Sri Lankan government’s own funds namely, public tax revenue. This project stands as a significant benefit to the people of the island.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hon. Bimal Rathnayake, Hon. Ramalingam Chandrasekhar, and His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake for their dedicated efforts.

Some individuals are displeased with the rapid pace of development in the Northern Province under this government and are attempting to create confusion through unnecessary criticism. In reality, the government is not responsible for delays in development projects; rather, certain government departments are accountable. They must rectify these shortcomings and align their efforts with the government’s pace of work, the Governor stated.
It is noteworthy that the reconstruction of this Kurikattuwan landing site is scheduled to be completed by October 26, 2027.

The event was attended by the Hon. Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development, Bimal Rathnayake; Hon. Members of Parliament from Jaffna District K. Ilankumaran, S. Sribavanandaraja, and J. Rajeevan; along with the Northern Provincial Chief Secretary, the Director General of the Road Development Authority, the Northern Provincial Naval Commander, the Jaffna District Secretary, the Jaffna District Coordinator to the Chairman of the District Coordination Committee, the Velanai and Nedunthivu Divisional Secretaries, the Hon.
