Official approval has been granted for two key initial project proposals in the Northern Province – World Bank representatives inform the Hon. Governor.

Representatives of the World Bank informed the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, today (03 April 2026) that official approval has been granted for two major project proposals submitted in the first phase under the ‘REVIVE’ (Regional Empowerment through Vibrant, Inclusive, and Viable Economies) project, which is to be implemented in the Northern and Eastern Provinces with World Bank funding.

This information was officially confirmed by the World Bank delegation during a meeting held this Friday morning at the Governor’s Secretariat, Northern Province.

Under this initial phase, approval has been granted by the World Bank for integrated development activities centered around two locations: the Kurunagar Fishery Harbour in Jaffna and the historically significant Jaffna Fort. Representatives of the World Bank, together with relevant officials, had conducted field visits and on-site assessments at these two locations yesterday – on Thursday, 02 April 2026.

During today’s discussion, detailed deliberations were held with the Hon. Governor regarding how these development projects will be implemented, the key infrastructure components included, the expected project models, and the direct and indirect economic benefits anticipated for the Northern Province through their execution.

The Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, S. Sathiyaseelan, also participated in this important discussion.
