A special meeting between the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, and the newly appointed Commander of the Jaffna Security Forces, Major General K.T.P.D. Silva, was held today – on Tuesday morning 03 February 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat.
Major General K.T.P.D. Silva, who assumed duties as the Commander of the Jaffna Security Forces on the 27th of last month, paid a courtesy call on the Northern Province Governor today and held discussions.
During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on the release of civilian lands in the Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts, as well as on the progress of land releases carried out in the past.
The efforts currently being undertaken to release agricultural farms under the control of the security forces, and the feasibility of such releases, were also examined.
The Governor also drew attention, during the meeting, to commercial establishments managed by the security forces.
In addition, views were exchanged regarding the cooperation extended by the security forces in the past.
