3rd Jaffna International Law Conference – 2026 inaugurated; participation of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province

The 3rd Jaffna International Law Conference – 2026, jointly organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Jaffna and the renowned Surana Law Firm of India, commenced this morning – on Saturday 24 January 2026, at the Hoover Auditorium of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.

The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, graced the occasion as the Special Guest.

The Faculty of Law of the University of Jaffna, in collaboration with Surana Law Firm, successfully conducted the first Law Conference in 2024 and the second conference in 2025. Continuing this series, the third conference for the year 2026 is being held over today and tomorrow, with the participation of international legal experts.

The first day’s sessions of the conference, which commenced at 9.00 a.m., were attended by several high-level representatives from the judiciary and public administration. Among those present were Hon. Justice S. Thurairaja of the Supreme Court and the President of the Court of Appeal, Hon. Justice Rohini Abeysooriya.

Also in attendance were Ms. Sharanya Hasandi Urugodawatte Dissanayake, Additional Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism; Mr. Sri Sai Murali, Deputy Consul of India in Jaffna; Professor Sri Satkunarajah, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna; and Ms. Kosalai Mathan, Head of the Faculty of Law. In addition, law faculty members, legal practitioners, students, and foreign delegates also participated in the event.
