I extend my heartfelt New Year greetings, wishing that the dawning year 2026 becomes a year of hope for all the people of the Northern Province, where darkness fades and light emerges.
In the past, we have lost much due to natural disasters. However, our New Year’s resolution is: “It is not enough merely to restore affected lives to their previous state; they must be transformed to become many times better and more prosperous than before.” We shall rebuild not only the collapsed walls but also the broken hearts of the people with hope. The heights we are destined to reach in the future must be greater than what we have lost.
To achieve this goal, the government led by His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is providing us with full cooperation. While expressing gratitude for the support given by the government for the resurgence of the province in the past year 2025, let us join hands with the government and elevate the livelihoods of our people to a new level this year.
At this moment when we administratively begin a new year, a loving request to our government officials:
“Remember that every file piling up on your desk is not just a bundle of papers. Each one represents a poor mother’s tears, a father’s sigh, or a young person’s future. Your New Year resolution should not be a mere ritual. It is a vow to the people’s trust. Infuse humanity within the laws and regulations, and become hands that wipe away the tears of those people.”
When the government, officials, and people unite as one, our Northern Province will travel on an exemplary path of development. I pray to the Almighty that the dawning 2026 becomes not only a year of changes but also a year of achievements.
N.Vethanayahan,
Governor, Northern Province.
