Following the disaster situation in the Northern Province, a special discussion on the emergency health measures to be implemented in the post-disaster context was held this morning – on Monday 01 December 2025, at the Governor’s Secretariat, presided over by the Governor of the Northern Province, Hon. N. Vethanayahan.
During this period, as floodwaters recede and people begin returning to normalcy, the meeting focused extensively on preventing the spread of infectious diseases and rebuilding the health infrastructure.
Ensuring basic health facilities for those currently staying in welfare centres and coordinating medical services were discussed. Officials were also instructed to intensify disease-prevention measures, including safeguarding the environment, as people start returning to their homes.
A review was conducted on the physical damages sustained by provincial hospitals during the disaster. Special attention was given to the fact that telecommunication facilities in some hospitals have not yet been fully restored, and ways to expedite these restorations were examined.
Attending the discussion were the Governor’s Secretary S. Sathiyaseelan, Secretary to the Ministry of Health – Northern Province Mrs. P. Jeyarani, Deputy Director-General (Planning) of the Central Ministry of Health Dr. S. Sreedharan, Provincial Director of Health Services – Northern Province Dr. Samanpathiran, and several other senior officials.
