Students and young children addicted to mobile phones cause various problems daily. – Hon. Governor

A large amount of funds has been allocated through the budget for persons with disabilities. Even if we propose plans, the government is ready to allocate funds for them. Therefore, all institutions should come together and take the initiative to implement a common work plan in the Northern Province, requested the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

The Inclusive Talent Show organized by the Jaffna Social Action Centre (JSAC) was held on Tuesday – 11 November 2025, at the Kodikamam Nadchathira Mahal.

Participating as the chief guest, the Governor further stated in his speech: During my tenure as the District Secretary of Jaffna, I have implemented various programs in collaboration with the Jaffna Social Action Centre. I have carried out many projects in resettlement areas.

Social issues have increased today. I recently met with children’s groups and women’s groups. They pointed out various matters occurring in our society. Our society is in a much worse state than we think. The government has now begun to control anti-social activities. These measures are also being implemented in the North. If the government had not taken these steps, our society would have faced destruction.

Students and young children addicted to mobile phones cause various problems daily. Losing money due to mobile games, making wrong decisions leading to loss of life, being cheated—many such things are happening. Even though the government is taking action on these, we must also remain vigilant.

The National People’s Power Government is ready to allocate funds through various other projects in addition to the budget allocation for our province. If we propose suitable projects, we can obtain that funding and develop our province, said the Governor.

The event was attended by Dr. R. Surendrakumaran, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Jaffna Social Action Centre and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna; Dr. S. Sivathas, Consultant Psychiatrist at Jaffna Teaching Hospital; Mrs. Kosalai Mathan, Head of the Faculty of Law, University of Jaffna; and many others.
