Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, stated that cultural festivals like these are essential for passing down our unique culture and traditions to the next generation.
The Cultural Festival, organized under the patronage of the Northern Province Department of Cultural Affairs, in collaboration with the Kilinochchi District Secretariat and the District Cultural Council, was held on Friday – 24th October 2025, at the Iranaimadu Thamarai Thadagam Hall, under the leadership of S. Muralitharan, the Kilinochchi District Secretary and Chairman of the District Cultural Council.
The chief guests, Hon. Minister of Fisheries and Kilinochchi District Coordinating Committee Chairman, Ramalingam Chandrasekar, and Hon. Governor of the Northern Province and Co-Chairman of the Kilinochchi District Coordinating Committee, Nagalingam Vethanayahan, participated in rituals at the Iranamadu Kanagambikai Temple before being escorted to the festival venue from Iranaimadu Junction in a cultural procession.
Addressing the event, the Governor emphasized that Tamils have a distinct culture and heritage, with hospitality being a unique hallmark of Tamil tradition. He noted that while many traditions are being forgotten today, and though it is natural for the old to fade and the new to emerge, we cannot forsake our unique identities. It is the responsibility of every one of us to pass these down to the next generation.
The Governor praised the children’s performances at the cultural festival, stating that they were outstanding and deserving of appreciation. He also highlighted the recognition of artists during the event, noting that honoring their contributions to the arts not only acknowledges their work but also inspires them to continue their efforts.
During the event, a book containing 46,000 Tamil names, compiled by the Tamilamutham organization, was launched. Additionally, a website for the Kilinochchi District Secretariat, featuring the history of temples and artists, was inaugurated, marking a significant highlight of the occasion.
