The Master Plan for the Kallundai Settlement Village has been prepared by the Northern Provincial Engineers Association. The Northern Provincial Council will begin allocating funds for its phased implementation starting next year, announced the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
Earlier on Thursday, 09 October 2025, the Governor also inaugurated the “Inthiranila” Memorial Hall, which was built through the generous financial contributions of migrants from the Kallundai Settlement Village.
In his address as Chief Guest, the Hon. Governor recalled, “During my tenure as the Jaffna District Secretary, this Kallundai Settlement Village was established in 2017. Many of the community’s needs still remain to be addressed. Development can only be achieved through unity. You must come together, take initiative, and work towards improving your village and your homes. The success of this effort depends on your commitment and dedication.”
The Governor also acknowledged the challenges faced in building the memorial hall. “I am aware that there were many difficulties in bringing this project to completion,” he said. “However, the hall has been constructed beautifully. It is now up to the people of this village to preserve it with care and make meaningful use of it.”
“The diaspora is eager to support our people,” said the Governor, “but unfortunately, some individuals here have misled them and betrayed their trust. As a result, there is growing hesitation among the diaspora to extend their support. Only through transparency and by upholding their trust can we ensure the successful implementation of development projects.” Emphasizing the need for continued progress in the village, the Governor added, “This village still requires further development. I will extend all possible support through the Northern Provincial Council.”
It is also noteworthy that the Divisional Secretaries of Sandilipay and Chankanai were present at the event.
