The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Mr. N. Vethanayahan, announced that a hospital ward complex, including a pediatric ward and an emergency treatment unit, as well as doctors’ quarters, will be constructed in phases starting next year with funding allocated by the Northern Provincial Council.
A discussion regarding the development of Mannar District Hospital took place at the hospital on Wednesday morning (08.10.2025). Following the Governor’s visit to the hospital on August 28, where he assessed the prevailing conditions, this meeting was held today with the participation of relevant government departments.
It was noted that no hospital wards had been constructed at Mannar District Hospital for a long time. In addition to the ward currently being built with financial assistance from the Indian government, a request was made for an additional ward complex. The Governor agreed to this proposal, stating that it could be implemented in phases with funding from the Northern Provincial Council, with allocations starting next year.
Similarly, the Governor assured that the request for a CT scanner for the hospital would be fulfilled. He also granted approval to fill vacancies for cleaning staff, electricians, and similar roles through external services. Regarding the request for appointing permanent medical specialists to the hospital, the Governor stated that he would raise the matter with the Central Ministry of Health.
On the same occasion, the hospital’s anthem was officially released, and renovated treatment units were inaugurated by the Governor.
The Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Hon.e Chairman of the Mannar Urban Council, the Mannar District Secretary, the Secretary of the Northern Province Ministry of Health, the Director of Health Services of the Northern Province, the Director of the Northern Province Buildings Department, the Director of Mannar District Hospital, and the Secretary of the Hospital Development Association participated in today’s discussion.
