Local authorities have the power to close business centres when the conditions for granting licenses to business premises are violated – Hon. Governor

Hairdressers in our province must transform into highly professional individuals suited to the current era. The National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) is ready to facilitate this. Everyone should utilize it to obtain the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) certificate. Thus, stated Hon. Northern Province Governor N. Vethanayahan.

The general meeting of the Jaffna District Hairdressers’ Cooperative Societies Association took place at Thanthai Selva Hall this morning on Tuesday (07.10.2025). Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, the Governor further stated in his speech:

After assuming office as Governor, members of your association have met with me on two occasions. They expressed keen interest in implementing discipline among association members. In particular, they emphasized the need for strict and disciplined practices regarding hair styling for school students. Many do not favor regulations and controls. However, it is commendable that your association has sought and requested their implementation. Similarly, members must cooperate in putting into practice the resolutions adopted by your association and council.

Local authorities grant licenses for your business establishments only with certain conditions. When these are violated by you, local authorities have the power to close the business premises. Therefore, operations must be conducted in compliance with the regulations.

All of you must have social responsibility. You should work with care for our community. Only when you stand united as an association can success be achieved easily. I wish you all the best in shining as exemplary professionals in the future, he said.

Local authority chairpersons and association members participated in this event. Notably, the Jaffna District Manager of the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority also attended and provided vocational guidance and advice.
