The Field Day programme on the theme of promoting millet cultivation was held on Wednesday, 17.09.2025 at 10:00 a.m. in the Konavil area, at the field of farmer Mr. Mayilvaganam Vimalarathinam, under the Akkarayankulam Agriculture Instructor Range, Kilinochchi District. The event was organized under the leadership of Agriculture Instructor Mrs. K. Sutharsini.
The event was graced by the Deputy Director of Agriculture for Kilinochchi, Mrs. S. Vijayathasan, who participated as the Chief Guest. Also in attendance were Subject Matter Officers, Agriculture Instructors, Technical Assistants, farmers, and social welfare enthusiasts.
In her address, the Deputy Director of Agriculture highlighted the nutritional benefits of millet-based foods and emphasized the importance of promoting millet cultivation. She noted that millet provides quick yields and also serves as animal feed.
The Agriculture Instructor, in her remarks, pointed out that millet cultivation brings higher yields in a shorter period, thereby ensuring good profits. She also added that millet produced in the region is exported to foreign countries, and therefore steps should be taken to increase local production.
Farmers, while sharing their views, requested that facilities be arranged to support the marketing of millet cultivated by them.
It is noteworthy that this field day programme was well organized by Agriculture Instructor Mrs. K. Sutharsini of the Akkarayankulam range.
