Mullaitivu is a district of great potential in the north, yet it also remains one of the most affected by poverty. This situation will certainly change during the tenure of this government, stated the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
The ‘Mulco’ sales outlet of the Karaithuraipattu Cattle Breeders’ Cooperative Society of Mullaitivu district was inaugurated this Friday morning (29.08.2025).
The Governor of the Northern Province, along with the Honorable Deputy Minister of Cooperatives, Upali Samarasinghe, inaugurated it.
Speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister stated that Mullaitivu is a district severely affected by various factors, including the war. He assured that during the tenure of the present government, development initiatives will be prioritized in this district. He further noted that the cooperative sector in the north has always been ahead of that in the south, and emphasized that the government will never betray the trust of the people.
Continuing his speech, the Northern Provincial Governor recalled that during his tenure as District Secretary in Mullaitivu, he had provided equipment worth several million rupees to the cooperative societies. However, due to mismanagement, these resources were not effectively utilized, which he described as very concerning. He noted that steps have now been taken to reactivate some of them. Emphasizing the importance of proper management, the Governor stated that if the resources of the district are fully utilized, progress can be achieved. ‘There is nothing we cannot accomplish,’ he affirmed, adding that the people have high expectations for increased income and greater employment opportunities.
The Governor said, ‘Today, this MULCO has been inaugurated. It should not remain as it is, but must be expanded further. You must strive to compete with the private sector. I extend my best wishes for your growth and progress.
This center has been established with an investment of one million rupees from the Diversified Fund and an additional contribution of over one million rupees from the cooperative society.
