Tamils have their own unique culture. We should not forget them. – Hon. Governor

In this era where culture is fading, cultural festivals are essential. The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, emphasized that such festivals must be held regularly, recognizing the needs of the time.
The Mannar District Arts and Culture Festival – 2025, jointly organized by the Mannar District Secretariat and the Mannar District Arts and Culture Council, under the patronage of the Northern Provincial Cultural Affairs Unit, was held this morning (Thursday, 28 August 2025) at the Mannar City Hall, under the chairmanship of Mannar District Secretary, Mr. K. Kanakeswaran.

Earlier, guests were ceremoniously brought to the venue on cultural floats from the entrance of the Mannar District Secretariat.

The events took place in the presence of the Chief Priest of Mannar District, Rev. Tamil Nesan; the President of the Mannar District Hindu Peeth, Shivasri Maha Tharmakumara kurukkal; and the President of the Mannar District Jammiyyathul Ulama Sabha, Maulavi Ash Shalkh Mahm Aslam.

The Governor, attending the event as the chief guest, stated in his address that Tamils possess a unique and rich culture. However, today, this culture is either being forgotten or altered. We must not let it fade—we should preserve its essence while embracing positive changes that strengthen it.

He further emphasized the importance of recognizing senior artists who have dedicated their lives to preserving and promoting our cultural heritage without expecting anything in return. Honoring such individuals and passing on their knowledge and experiences to the younger generation is essential for sustaining our identity.

The book “Mannezhil” was also launched during the event. Additionally, the “Manilam Kalaichudar” award was presented to six individuals, the “Mankalaithenral” award to five individuals, and the “Mankalaichchurabi” award to another five, all conferred by the Hon. Governor.

As part of the cultural festival, various artists delivered vibrant performances across multiple events.

The event was further graced by the presence of special guests, Deputy Director of the Northern Provincial Cultural Affairs Unit, Mrs. Laahini Nirubarajh, and Senior Advocate, Janab. M.M. Saburuddeen.
