Northern Province Governor Reviews Women’s Affairs Projects, Calls for Immediate Preparation of New Development Initiatives

The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, announced that additional funds will be allocated to the Northern Provincial Council next year and directed officials to promptly design projects aimed at improving the quality of life of the people.

A monthly review meeting was held today (25.08.2025) at the Governor’s Secretariat under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, to assess the financial and physical progress of projects implemented this year under the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Rehabilitation, Social Services, Cooperatives, Food Supply and Distribution, and Industry and Entrepreneurship Development.

The progress of the projects of each department, including the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, the Department of Social Services, the Department of Industries, the Department of Cooperative Development, and the Cooperative Employees’ Commission, was examined in detail.

The Governor said that it is a good thing that the Finance Commission has announced that it will approve the projects for the next year by the end of this year, and said that the projects should be identified quickly. The Governor also mentioned that the projects should be identified based on what are the effects of the projects being implemented.

The discussion was attended by the Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, S. Sathyaseelan, Secretary to the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, M. Nanthagopalan, Deputy Chief Secretary – Finance, Director of Planning, the new Director of the Department of Social Services, Mrs. L. Thanuja, the Director of the Department of Industries, Mrs. S. Vanaja, the new Commissioner of the Department of Cooperative Development, Ms. Akalya Sekarajah, the Provincial Director of the Department of Buildings, Mrs. P. Abirami of the Cooperative Employees Commission, and the Assistant Commissioners of Cooperative Development of each district.
