“As the student who won the Chithampara Mathematics Competition and went on an educational trip to London said, with hard work and perseverance, we can achieve anything. I have shared this message in many places. We should never be discouraged by failures; instead, we should turn them into stepping stones,” said the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
The Math Festival – 2025, which honoured the students who excelled in the Chithampara Mathematics Examination, was held on Saturday evening (23.08.2025) at the Valvai Sri Muthumari Amman Temple Wedding Hall. Attending the second session as the Chief Guest, the Hon. Governor said in his speech, “Organizing an event of this scale, with 15,000 students participating from across Sri Lanka, is no easy task. But you have accomplished it successfully and effectively.”
At the event, the students who shared their experiences spoke beautifully about one important lesson. They mentioned that they had failed to win the Chithampara Mathematics Examination for several years, but never gave up. With consistent effort and determination, they finally secured first place and earned the opportunity to visit London. That is the truth — when we persevere, nothing is impossible. Even if we don’t succeed at first, we should not be discouraged. Instead, we must build on our experiences and face the next challenge with even greater enthusiasm. Our efforts will not go unrewarded.
The Governor further added: “Likewise, when you reach greater heights through these examinations in the future, remember to give back. Help others. Support your community. Let this spirit continue to pass on, like a postcard, from one person to another.”
At the event, the Governor also presented prizes and medals to the students who excelled in the Chithampara Mathematics Examination.
