“Building a law-abiding, dignified and moral society must begin with the individual – Hon. Governor”

“Bringing about change is never easy. However, if everyone works together with dedication and effort, that change can be achieved,” said Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.

As part of the event being carried out under the theme ‘Towards a Heartfelt Jaffna’ of the ‘Clean Sri Lanka’ project, an awareness workshop for Jaffna District School Principals was held at the Jaffna Hindu College today, Tuesday 19th August 2025.

Inaugurating the awareness workshop, the Governor stated that the government is primarily focused on three key issues: Poverty Alleviation, Digitalization, and Clean Sri Lanka. Among these, the Clean Sri Lanka project holds the highest importance.

The aim is not only to keep our environment and ourselves clean, but also to bring about a positive change in society. This transformation must begin with the individual and extend to the community. We must strive to become a law-abiding, dignified, and moral society.

We must serve as role models to bring about meaningful change. As educators, you shape the future generation. It is enough for every school principal to provide strong and exemplary leadership within their schools, for leadership is very important quality. We have seen in many instances that institutions guided by excellent leadership continue to thrive. Therefore, every school principal must demonstrate high standards of leadership with outstanding qualities. Through this, we can inspire positive change in the students of the future generation,” said the Governor.

The workshop was attended by the Secretary to the Education Ministry – Northern Province, Provincial Director of Education, the Assistant Director of the Clean Sri Lanka Project, the Coordinator of the Chairman of the Jaffna District Coordination Committee, the Principal of the Jaffna Hindu College, the Principals of the Jaffna District Schools and many others.
