A discussion on the projects identified for implementation in the North with assistance from the World Bank, as well as potential future projects, was held at the Northern Provincial Governor’s Secretariat on Friday afternoon, August 8, 2025.
The discussion was attended by the Honorable Minister of Fisheries, Hydrology, and Marine Resources, R. Chandrasekar, along with the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
Today’s discussion continued the dialogue initiated on June 29th concerning the work projects to be carried out by the World Bank in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
The projects selected by the World Bank in the first phase were reviewed in detail to assess their readiness. Additionally, discussions were held on potential new projects for inclusion and the feasibility of implementing them. It was also agreed to consult with the relevant departments to further evaluate certain projects and determine the next steps based on the findings.
The discussion was attended by the Coordinator to the Chairman of the Jaffna District Coordination Committee, the Coordinator to the Honorable Minister Bimal Rathnayake, the Secretary to the Northern Provincial Governor, District Secretaries of Jaffna, Mullaitivu, and Mannar, Planning Directors of Kilinochchi and Vavuniya, the Northern Provincial Deputy Chief Secretary – Planning, Assistant Directors, and representatives from the Urban Development Authority.
