The second phase of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) plan to provide full vision for all in the world by 2030(Insight -2030) in Vavuniya

The second phase of the project to provide free cataract surgery to people facing eye problems in the Northern Province is being carried out in Vavuniya. According to the advice of the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles, free cataract surgeries are being conducted at the Vavuniya General Hospital. In the districts of  Mullaitivu, Mannar, Vavuniya and Anuradhapura, nearly1200 people suffering from cataract are being treated in this free surgery. This free cataract surgery camp is being conducted till the 22nd of December 2023.

Three doctors from Vavunia, Chilaw and Mullaitivu hospitals along with three doctors visiting from India are carrying out these free cataract surgery’s. This free eye surgery camp is conducted under the Ananda and Alka Foundation in Malaysia.

As the first phase of surgery for the Northern Province has already been successfully conducted in Jaffna Teaching Hospital, following the advice of Honorable Governor P.S.M Charles, the second phase of operations has been conducted in Vavuniya. Indian Consulate and the Ministry of Health have also given their support to carry out this project.
