Proceedings of the Interim Secretariat of the Independent Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation in Jaffna.

On the recommendation of His Excellency the President, the members of the Interim Secretariat of the proposed Independent Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation to be established through an Act of Parliament, They met and discussed with the Honorable Governor of Northern Province PSM Charles at her residence in Colombo yesterday (09.12.2023). A group including Director General of the proposed Independent Commission, Dr. Asanga Gunawansa, Policy Division Head of the Interim Secretariat, Dr. Yuvi  Thangaraja, Legal Division Officer of the Interim Secretariat, Nisantheni Ratnam and  Ashvini Hapangama Executive to Director General and Legal had a discussion with the Honorable Governor.

The main objective of the proposed independent commission is to provide the necessary facilities for reconciliation, reparations and lasting peace to ascertain the truth about the grievances of Sri Lankan citizens in the post-war period.

The committee met with the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province yesterday evening to discuss the progress of the work of the Interim Secretariat for the Truth and Reconciliation Mechanism appointed to develop the necessary legal and policy framework, operational procedures and guidelines for the Independent Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation.

Accordingly, the Interim Secretariat of the Independent Commission for Truth, Unity and Reconciliation, which has arrived in Jaffna, will meet with religious leaders, government officials, university students and the public until the 12th to listen to their views on the reconciliation mechanism and provide explanations related to the commission.
