The event of a grant-in-aid for those currently contributing to the arts and literature sector and living below the poverty line was held on 06 October 2020 at the Jaffna Public Library Auditorium under the patronage of the Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Mr. L. Ilangovan.
The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Mrs. PSM Charles graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Chief Secretary Mr. A. Pathinathan graced the occasion as the special guest. Secretary to the Governor Mrs. S. Mohanathan, Emeritus Professor A. Shanmugadas and Dr. Manonmani Shanmugadas also graced the occasion as guests.
The welcome address was delivered by Mrs.Sujeeva Sivathas, Asst. Director of Cultural Affairs Department. Following the guest speeches, 75 selected artists out of 230 in the Northern Province were given a cheque worth Rs. 5000 / = each. Some of the artists thanked the organizers for the assistance given to them and they also presented their artworks. Mr. M.Arulchandran, Senior Cultural Officer, Jaffna District proposed the vote of thanks. Cultural Officers and officers from the department also participated in this event.
