In today’s modernized era, Women’s Empowerment and Gender Mainstreaming Capacity Building is considered crucial as an integrated approach to developing the capabilities of individuals, institutions, and communities in achieving equality between both men and women.
In this regard, a workshop encompassing gender-related issues, leadership, opportunities, challenges, and relevant strategies to improve the economic status of women in the Northern Province, while ensuring the integration of gender equality into all policies, plans, and activities of institutions, holds immense importance!
Considering the importance of this subject, our Ministry, under the ILO-PAVE project, organized a one-day workshop for trainers on June 7, 2025. This initial phase was held at the Chief Secretary’s Office Auditorium in Jaffna.
The workshop was chaired by Mr. P. Vageshan, Secretary of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Northern Province, Mrs. Maheswary Pathirathna (Co-Founder, Director, Lead Consultant, and Master Trainer, PASS Asia Pvt. Ltd.) served as the resource person, with the participation of Nirupa Varunakulasingham (General Manager & Consultant, PASS Asia Pvt. Ltd.)
A total of 84 participants attended, including relevant representatives from government departments and civil society organizations across the Northern Province. From these participants, 40 trainers were selected to proceed to the advanced “Training of Trainers” workshop.
Following the initial phase, the second stage of this training program was a five-day residential workshop, held from June 11, 2025 to June 15, 2025 at the Management Development Training Unit in Kilinochchi.
This impactful “Training of Trainers” workshop for the 40 selected trainers was conducted under the guidance of Mr. P. Vageshan, Secretary of the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, and led by Ms. Rajamalligai Sivasuntharasharma, Assistant Secretary of the Ministry. The same resource person from the first phase facilitated this session. A key highlight was the awarding of certificates to the participants upon the successful completion of their training.
