The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, has called for collective cooperation to restore the pre-war and pre-displacement balance in student enrollment across schools
The Founder’s Memorial Day and Prize Distribution Ceremony of Keerimalai Naguleswara Maha Vidyalayam was held on July 1, 2025, at the school premises under the chairmanship of Acting Principal Mr. R. Thiruchelvam. The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Hon. Member of Parliament S. Sribavanandaraja attended as the Special Guest. The Guest of Honor was Mrs. Jamuna Rajaseelan, Zonal Director of Education for the Valikamam Zone
The Governor unveiled a statue of the late Subramaniam Kanakasabai, who generously donated his land for the establishment of the school. Following the ceremony, the book ‘Nagulan’ was officially launched.
In his Chief Guest address, the Governor further stated that Valikamam North, in the Jaffna District, is one of the most severely affected areas. He noted that many people’s lands have yet to be released and that numerous families still need to return and resettle in the area. Even in the regions that have been released, there remains a continued need to support resettlement efforts.
Your school, which was re-established in its original location after displacement and initially lacked basic facilities, has gradually developed over time. This progress is a result of the dedicated leadership of the principal and the commitment of the teachers who have served here.
Even schools that once operated with large student populations are now unable to function and have been forced to close. Many people displaced by the war to Jaffna city are reluctant to return to this area
In Valikamam North, schools continue to face resource shortages, and it is our responsibility to address these challenges. With funds allocated this year, measures will be taken next year to fulfill the needs of schools in the area using the available resources.
Today, while many individuals are fraudulently acquiring property and land, numerous schools continue to thrive thanks to the generosity of people like Subramaniam Kanakasabai, who have supported education by donating land
You cannot achieve peace and happiness by simply accumulating money, land, or property. True peace and happiness come from giving and helping others. Students should cultivate this habit by learning to help and respect those around them. When you help others, many will come to help you in return. You must not covet the property of others, because if we take what belongs to others, we risk losing our own,” the Governor said
