Two town hall meetings were held on June 19, 2024 at Vavuniya District Secretariat and on June 20, 2024 at Jaffna District Secretariat.
These meetings were jointly chaired by the Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Northern Province and the respective District Secretariats, bringing together government officials, members and activists to address local issues with a special focus on issues affecting women and children.
The meeting held in Vavuniya was attended by the Assistant Secretary, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Northern Province, Mrs. S.Lathumeera and co-chaired by the Director of Planning, Vavuniya District Secretariat.
The meeting held in Jaffna was chaired by Mr. P. Vageshan, Secretary, Ministry of Women’s Affairs, Northern Province, and co-chaired by the Assistant District Secretary, Jaffna.
In these meetings, the representatives of the women’s groups made presentations on the issues in a neat and orderly manner.
This time, the highlight was that the government officials from various departments, who are in decision making caliber were present in person and available over the phone to reach out for solutions to the issues raised in these meetings.
