The Mullaitivu District Coordination Committee meeting was held on Friday morning, 29 August 2025, at the Mullaitivu District Secretariat Auditorium, under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province and Co-Chairman of the Committee, N. Vethanayahan, together with the Hon. Deputy Minister and Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Upali Samarasinghe.
Following the welcome address by the District Secretary, Deputy Minister Upali Samarasinghe, in his opening remarks, announced that funds will be allocated next year for the construction of the Kokkilai–Pulmoddai Estuary Bridge, and that the foundation stone for the Vadduvagal Bridge will be laid by the President on the 2nd of September 2025.
In his address, the Hon. Governor stated that the present government has allocated twice the amount of funds this year compared to previous years. He emphasized the need to fully utilize these funds within the stipulated time, while assuring that additional allocations will be provided by the government in the future. He therefore urged all stakeholders to work together to ensure the effective and timely use of the current allocations.”
The actions taken on the matters discussed at the previous District Coordination Committee meeting were first reviewed. This was followed by a review of the progress of ongoing development works in the district, including those funded by the Provincial Council. Subsequently, plans were presented for the approval of the Committee, after which important district-related issues were discussed. Lengthy deliberations took place on matters concerning education and health.
Subsequently, the matters discussed at the Regional Development Committee meetings were presented to the District Coordination Committee for decision.
The meeting was attended by Members of Parliament Hon. P. Saththiyalingam, Hon. M. Jagatheeswaran, Hon. K. Thilaganathan, Hon. T. Ravikaran, and Hon. I. Muththu Mohamed, along with Chairmen, Secretaries of the Northern Provincial Ministries, Heads of Departments, and Administrative Officers of the District Secretariat.”
