The inauguration ceremony of linking the Jaffna Public Library with digital technology was launched by the President

His Excellency President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has allocated a special budget of Rs. 100 million for the development of the Jaffna Public Library. The official launch ceremony of this initiative was held today, Monday (01.09.2025), at the Jaffna Public Library.

At this event, His Excellency the President and his delegation were warmly received by the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, and the Hon. Mayor of the Jaffna Municipal Council, Mrs. Mathivadani Vivekanandaraja. The proceedings commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. The Chief Secretary of the Northern Provincial Council, Mrs. Thanuja Murugesan, then delivered the welcome address. This was followed by a keynote speech delivered by the Hon. Minister of Fisheries, Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, R. Chandrasekar.

After that, the official website of the Jaffna Public Library was launched and the digitization project was also launched. This was facilitated by the Chief Librarian of the Jaffna Public Library.

The Hon. Minister of Public Safety, Ananda Wijepala, Hon. Parliamentarians, S. Sripavanandaraja, K. Ilankumaran, J. Rajeevan, Chairman of the Northern Provincial Council, C.V.K. Sivagnanam, Hon. Members of the Municipal Council, Secretaries of the Northern Provincial Ministries, Heads of Departments, and members of the Jaffna Library Readers’ Circle participated in this event.
