The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles, has instructed his officials to avoid training programs in the future and to carry out the programs based on the training provided so far. A special discussion was held on 31.01.2024 with the representatives of local and international non-governmental organizations operating in the Northern Province and secretaries of the Ministries in the Northern Province under the leadership of the Honorable Governor.
The Chief Secretary of the Northern Province S.M. Saman Bandulasena said that various training programs have been carried out in the Northern Province with the cooperation of non-governmental organizations at a cost of 3187.649 million rupees. Also, the secretaries of the provincial ministries submitted plans regarding the activities that can be carried out in the province.
The Honorable Governor said that his Ministries are ready to provide cooperation for all activities carried out by non-governmental organizations in the province. The Honorable Governor also instructed to carry out the following activities.
All local and international charitable organizations operating in the Northern Province should be coordinated and their activities listed.
Plans should be made to generate returns on projects and investments.
Steps should be taken to prevent school dropouts. BACK TO SCHOOL program should be implemented.
Propose income generating schemes for the backward regional councils.
More attention should be paid to agricultural production and use of new technologies should be encouraged.
In addition, the Honorable Governor said that a special unit for small business entrepreneurs has been established and plans are being made to develop the industry. Also, the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles, has instructed the officers to implement the suggestions and proposals made during the discussion within a month.
