The Honorable Governor of the Northern Province advised to take indiscriminate action Against those who keep the environment fertile

The highest number of dengue cases have been reported in Jaffna district in the Northern Province. Especially in the areas covered by the Jaffna Regional Health Service, more dengue patients are reported daily, said Director of Northern Province Health Services Dr. T.Sathyamurthy. These matters were disclosed while a review meeting on the dengue situation in the province was held under the chairmanship of the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles.

Only 775 dengue cases have been reported in Jaffna district so far this year. But, 3986 dengue cases were reported in Jaffna district in the whole of last year and six (06) deaths were also reported. It is noteworthy that five of them died last December.

Officials in charge of the departments said that the Jaffna Municipal Council and other local government authority’s are doing their level best. However, officials said that the public does not realize their responsibilities. As of the 12th, 1542 places where the environment is not kept clean have been identified and cases have been filed in 147 places.

Officials also said that environmental protection is worse in places where the educated community lives than in rural areas. In addition, the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles, directed the officials to take action against those who are not keeping the environment clean and spread corruption. The Honorable Governor said to get the cooperation of the police for these activities and to keep garbage bins in common places on every street and maintain them properly. The Honorable Governor also said that the local government organizations should involve the public in such activities. At the same time, the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province P.S.M. Charles has pointed out that it is essential for the public to realize their social responsibilities.
