Indian Finance Minister Mrs. Nirmala Sitharaman, who arrived in Sri Lanka on a three-day official visit, left for India today (03 Oct) after completing her visit to Jaffna.
The Finance Minister of India visited the New Technology and Product Exhibition in Jaffna. Honorable Governor of Northern Province Mrs. P.S.M. Charles also attended the event and met the Finance Minister.
After that, the Indian Finance Minister visited the Jaffna Library and Nallur Temple and later attended the inauguration of the State Bank of India (SBI) Jaffna branch. The Governor of Northern Province Mrs. PSM Charles also participated in this event.
Later, the Honorable Governor of Northern Province Mrs. P.S.M. Charles addressed the gathering, ‘It should be remembered with respect that Sri Lanka and India have had a close relationship since then and have supported each other in various ways for the needs of the country. Further she said, ‘We should thank the Government of India for its contribution to the development projects including housing projects to improve the livelihood of the people in the north and in this country and especially for the development of this province.’ Also, recalling the Indian government’s full support to our country in getting international financial assistance, the Governor said that the visit of the Indian Finance Minister will help further develop the relationship between this country and India.
State Minister Tharaka Balasuriya and other delegations also participated in these events.
