The Chairmen of Thunukai and Manthai East Pradeshiya Sabhas of Mullaitivu District and the Chairman of Vali-East Pradeshiya Sabha of Jaffna District met the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, at the Governor’s Secretariat today, Thursday (24.07.2025) and had discussions.
The Chairman of Thunukai Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. K. Senthuran, and the Chairman of Manthai East Pradeshiya Sabha, Mrs. Irasaiah Nalini, along with other members of the respective Sabhas, participated in the meeting. They pointed out that the allocated funds were insufficient to meet the development needs of various roads in their areas.
They also requested the Governor to address the urgent need to fill the vacancies in the Pradeshiya Sabhas. Additionally, they highlighted several issues, including transportation difficulties faced by the public and the abandonment of small ponds by the Department of Agricultural Services.
Following this, members of the Pradeshiya Sabha, including the Chairman of the Manthai East Pradeshiya Sabha, Mr. T. Nirosh, and the Secretary of the Sabha, met the Governor for a discussion. During the meeting, they also submitted a petition requesting the Governor to give special attention to the appointment of personnel for non-scheduled posts.
They also accused the Department of Archaeology of creating obstacles to tourism development activities within the areas under the jurisdiction of the Pradeshiya Sabha. Additionally, they requested the creation of new human resources to support the Sabha’s efforts in promoting pre-school education.
The Governor responded that he would fulfill the requests made by the Chairmen of the Pradeshiya Sabhas as soon as possible. He also urged the elected members of the Local Authorities to work for the development of the people without political bias, emphasizing that those who voted for them should be treated equally, without any distinction based on party affiliation.
