The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, participated in an event held to donate books to the Jaffna Public Library in commemoration of the 170th anniversary of the Fort Sri Kalyani Samagri Dharma Maha Sangha Sabha.
The event took place this morning – on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, at the auditorium of the Jaffna Public Library.
Addressing the gathering, the Governor recalled that the Jaffna Library was burned down in 1981, during the period when he was studying at the University of Jaffna, describing it as a great tragedy. He also stated that events such as this book donation help to strengthen relationships among communities.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, the Jaffna District Secretary and the Commissioner of Jaffna Municipal Council also took part in the event.
