Special Discussion Held Between Representatives of the Sri Lanka Non-Academic Employees’ Union and the Governor

A special discussion between the Northern Province representatives of the Sri Lanka Non-Academic Employees’ Union and the Hon. Governor was held this evening – on Monday 02 February 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat, regarding issues faced by non-academic employees in the Northern Province.

During the meeting, the Governor listened to the demands of the employees and instructed the relevant officials to give favorable consideration to issues that can be resolved within the authority of the Northern Province and to expedite the necessary actions.

Meanwhile, the Governor also stated that issues which fall outside the authority of the Northern Province and need to be resolved at the national policy level should be addressed through the Sri Lanka Non-Academic Employees’ Union by engaging with the relevant ministries of the central government. He further assured that he would be able to provide supportive cooperation in this regard.

The discussion was attended by the Secretary to the Governor – Northern Province , the Deputy Chief Secretary (Administration) – Northern Province, the Secretary of the Northern Province Ministry of Education, the Provincial Director of Education – Northern Province, the Administrative Officer of the Governor’s Secretariat and trade union representatives.
