His Excellency President Ranil Wickremesinghe was received by the Honorable Governor of Northern Province who arrived in Jaffna.
His Excellency President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who is on an official visit to the Northern Province, was welcomed by the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, P.S.M. Charles. Following this, a special coordination committee meeting for Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts was held at the Jaffna District Secretariat. The Special Coordinating Committee meeting chaired by the President was also presided over by District Co-Chairmen Hon’ble Governor P.S.M. Charles, Minister Douglas Devananda and Minister Bandula Gunawardena.
During the special coordination committee meeting held today, His Excellency the President said that the issues related to missing persons cannot be allowed to drag on. The President also said that resettlement activities should be completed by the beginning of next year.
The Government Agent’s of both the districts clarified about the activities being carried out in Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts, future plans and the challenges ahead. Also, Northern Province Chief Secretary MR. S.M Saman Bandulasena presented the issues regarding the situation in the Northern Province.
Land acquisition, resettlement, problems faced by fishermen, problems of farmers, problems of transport to islands, uneven roads, lack of vocational training for youth were discussed during today’s special meeting.
