Under the PSDG program during the Yala season of 2025, seed paddy production is currently being commenced on 50 acres of land under the Paavatkulam major irrigation scheme in the Vavuniya District. A total of 50 farmers have been selected for this programme, with each beneficiary receiving 3 bushels of seed paddy per acre on a subsidized basis.
At present, the crop has reached the 1½ month growth stage and shows no signs of disease or pest infestation.
Notably, a farmer has pioneered the effort by cultivating seed paddy on half an acre through seedling transplantation.
