His Excellency the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake ceremonially inaugurated the Seed Coconut Plantation today, Tuesday (02 September 2025), in the Palai Divisional Secretariat Division of Kilinochchi District. Hon. N. Vethanayahan, Governor of the Northern Province, also graced the occasion.
The Coconut Research Institute and Chilaw Plantation Company have jointly established this plantation to support the development of the Northern Coconut Triangle Zone. The inauguration was held in conjunction with the International Coconut Day celebrations.
Hon. Samantha Vidyarthna, Minister in charge of the Sector, Hon. R. Chandrasekar, Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Marine Resources, as well as Hon. Members of Parliament S. Sribavanantharaja and K. Ilankumaran, together with senior officials, were present at the event.
