The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, stated that hospital Supervisors bear a significant responsibility in safeguarding the reputation of hospitals and ensuring the satisfactory delivery of patient services.
After nearly 10 years, appointment letters for promotions to the post of ‘Hospital Supervisor’ in the Northern Province have been issued. The event took place today – on Tuesday 03 March 2026, at the Governor’s Secretariat under the patronage of the Governor.
Delivering the welcome address, the Secretary to the Northern Province Ministry of Health, P. Jeyarani, noted that although there are currently 39 vacancies for Hospital Supervisors in hospitals across the Northern Province, only 20 promotion appointments were granted today. She further pointed out that while 22 candidates had passed the relevant special examination, only 20 were deemed qualified and selected through the interview process.
In his special address, Hon. Governor N. Vethanayahan stated that with the granting of these promotions, new vacancies are created at lower levels within the administrative structure. Filling those vacancies immediately presents a challenge. Nevertheless, he emphasized that a policy decision has been taken to ensure that eligible officers receive their due promotions in a timely manner, and accordingly, promotions are being granted continuously across all service categories.
The Governor further remarked that numerous complaints are frequently received from the public regarding hospitals. He stressed that services should be delivered in such a way that such complaints do not arise in the future. He underscored that hospital Supervisors bear full responsibility for ensuring that patients visiting hospitals do not feel dissatisfied and that hospital environments are kept clean. He also emphasized the importance of strictly adhering to time management and, above all, maintaining a compassionate and caring relationship with patients.
The Secretary to the Governor of the Northern Province, the Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Health, the Deputy Chief Secretary – Administration and the Assistant Secretary to the Provincial Ministry of Health were also present at the event.
