Divisional, district, and provincial cultural festivals provide valuable stage opportunities for many artists. Such events should be continuously promoted, and greater opportunities should be given to artists, especially young talents,” said Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
The cultural festival jointly organized by the Valikamam West Divisional Secretariat and the Cultural Council was held this evening (Friday, 22.08.2025) at the ground of Araly Hindu College, under the chairmanship of Divisional Secretary Mrs. Kavitha Uthayakumar. Guests were ceremonially brought from the Aralli North Murugamoorthy Temple to the venue with traditional cultural dances.
The Northern Provincial Governor conferred the ‘Kalaivaaruthi’ award on five senior artists from the region.
Speaking at the event, the Governor said that during their childhood, various cultural programs were frequently held in different places, whereas today such events have become rare. He emphasized that culture and fundamental values must never be abandoned, but instead preserved and passed on to the next generation, along with the community’s unique traditions.
Today’s cultural festival is being celebrated with the active participation of the villagers, who have extended remarkable support. The strong community involvement was evident during the cultural procession, where their enthusiasm and cooperation stood out. This is how festivals should truly be organized. I extend my compliments to the Divisional Secretary for her exemplary leadership in guiding this event, as well as to the officers who supported her. This success has been made possible through the outstanding leadership of the Divisional Secretary.
We should encourage the participation of the younger generation in both arts and sports. We should ensure that their attention is not distracted. We will do this as much as we can, said the Governor.
In this event, The Chairman of the Vali. West Pradeshiya Sabha, S. Jayanthan, was the special guest, and the Senior Cultural Officer of the Jaffna District Secretariat, Mrs. V. Sukunalini, the Principal of Araly Hindu College, N. Sivanandaraja, and the sculptor, T. Vijayasiri, were also present as guests of honour.
