The Northern Province has been allocated three times the funds compared to previous years. These funds must be utilized promptly and efficiently, said the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province and Co-Chairman of the Jaffna District Coordination Committee, Mr. N. Vethanayahan.
He further stated that approval was granted yesterday to fill the vacant posts of technical officers and other some vacant posts in the Northern Province, and that these vacancies will be filled in the near future.
The Jaffna District Coordination Committee meeting was held at the Jaffna District Secretariat on Thursday morning (17.07.2025) under the chairmanship of Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic Resources and Marine Resources and Chairman of the Jaffna District Coordination Committee, R. Chandrasekar.
Following the welcome address by Jaffna District Secretary M. Pratheepan, the speech of the Governor, Co-Chairman of the Coordination Committee, was delivered. The Governor further commented,
The Northern Province has been allocated three times the funds compared to previous years. These funds must be utilized promptly and efficiently. We are committed to ensuring that 100 percent of the allocated funds are spent by the end of this year, said the Hon. Governor. At the same time, it is essential to assess the impact of these expenditures. We must examine the tangible benefits delivered to the people. The plans for the upcoming year should be selected and finalized without delay, giving priority to the most pressing needs. The Governor also emphasized that Divisional Secretaries must ensure equitable distribution of development initiatives across all areas.
Following the Governor’s speech, the Chairman of the Coordination Committee and Minister R. Chandrasekar addressed the meeting. After that, the approval of the last meeting report and the plans for the approval of the District Coordination Committee were presented. Following that, the progress of the projects being implemented by the District Secretariat was reviewed. After this, the progress of the projects being implemented in the district with the provincial funds was reviewed.
The meeting was attended by Parliamentarians Hon. S.Sritharan, Hon. Gajendrakumar Ponnambalam, Hon. K. Ilankumaran, Hon. J. Rajeeban, Hon. S. Sripavanandaraja, Hon. R. Arujuna, the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Secretaries of the Northern Province Ministries, Provincial Directors, Divisional Secretaries, Jaffna District Secretariat high-ranking officials, Honorary Chairpersons of Local Authorities, security personnel, and many others.
