World Environment Day was observed on the theme of “Beat Plastic Pollution” by United Nations Environment Programme this year. Accordingly, National Environment Week for this year is declared from the 30th of May 2023 to 05th of June 2023. Northern Provincial Council also organized various activities during the Environment Week.
To initiate the Environment Week, tree planting programme was conducted in the premises of Departments and Ministries of Northern Province.

In order to minimize the air pollution and its effect, various activities such as turn off the air conditioners were carried out in the Departments and Ministries of Northern Provincial Council on 31.05.2023.
Considering the Environment Cleaning Day, Siramadhana campaign was conducted on the 1st of June .2023 in the premises of Northern provincial Council.

Considering the day for bio- diversity, watered all the plants in the premises of Northern Provincial Council and other department to protect the bio- diversity and awareness program regarding the bio- diversity were also conducted.
Considering the World environment Day, awareness programme on sustainable land use management and plastic waste management were organized and explanations regarding them was provided by resource persons on 05.06.2023 at the Auditorium of Chief Secretary’s Secretariat. And plastic management programmes were also conducted in the premises of Northern Provincial Council and other departments.

Further, Local Authorities collaborated with Central Environmental Authority conducted waste disposal in the beaches and Shramadana campaign on the Environment Day.
Thus,National Environmental Week was observed in Northern Provincial Council effectively.
