“Resources remain concentrated in certain schools, while neighbouring schools are left with little to none,” noted the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan. Emphasizing that Zonal Education Directors bear the responsibility for ensuring equitable resource distribution, the Governor also directed that work plans for the upcoming year be submitted within a month.
The monthly review meeting to assess the financial and physical progress of projects implemented this year under the Northern Provincial Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, and Youth Affairs was held today, Tuesday (15.07.2025), at the Governor’s Secretariat, under the chairmanship of the Honorable Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan.
The Honorable Governor has instructed the Zonal Education Directors to release all teachers who have been transferred and ensure they assume duties at their new stations by tomorrow, Wednesday (16.07.2025). He further directed that, should any teacher fail to report to their new post, immediate action be taken in accordance with institutional procedures.
Furthermore, the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, Mrs. Thanuja Murugesan, stated that no fees shall be collected from students for term examinations conducted in schools, as the Provincial Council will provide the necessary funds. She also clarified that no allowances will be granted for the preparation or correction of Furthermore, the situation in which the Northern Province continues to lag behind in the GCE Ordinary Level examination results was examined. The Governor noted that the reasons for the inability to show progress in the Ordinary Level examination, despite being ahead in the GCE Advanced Level examination, should be examined in detail.
Zonal Education Directors highlighted that external factors are adversely impacting the learning activities of students preparing for the Ordinary Level Examination, emphasizing the need for psychological support. They also noted that more focused and intentional teaching efforts are required from teachers to effectively support these students.
In addition, the progress of each department — including the Northern Provincial Ministry of Education, the Department of Education, the Department of Sports, and the Cultural Affairs Division — was reviewed in detail.
The discussion was attended by the Chief Secretary of the Northern Province, the Secretary to the Governor, the Secretary to the Northern Provincial Ministry of Education, the Deputy Chief Secretary (Finance), the Deputy Chief Secretary (Planning), the Directors of the Departments of Education, Sports, and Cultural Affairs, as well as the Zonal Education Directors.
