Message of Wishes from the Hon. Governor to Students Sitting the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination

As the General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level (G.C.E. O/L) Examination is scheduled to commence tomorrow – on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, N. Vethanayahan, has issued a message of wishes:

“I extend my heartfelt wishes to all our beloved students who are appearing for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination. I firmly believe that you will overcome the setbacks of the past and bring about a new transformation in the educational history of the Northern Province this year.”

The Governor further stated:
Although our province has lagged behind in examination results in recent years, each one of you possesses the ability to change that situation. For the students sitting this year’s examination—particularly those who required additional learning support—special online educational programs were conducted under my direct supervision. Those efforts, together with your hard work, will certainly not go in vain.

The position we obtain is merely a statistic. However, my foremost expectation is that all our students achieve excellent results and qualify for higher-level education.

Therefore, face the examination without any anxiety, with complete self-confidence and a clear mind. Write your answers clearly and calmly in the answer scripts based on what you have studied.

Your success will bring pride not only to your families but also to the entire Northern Province. Praying to God that your future dreams become a reality, I once again extend my heartfelt wishes for your success.”

From the Northern Province, 20,887 school candidates and 5,412 private candidates—a total of 26,299 candidates—will sit for the examination. For this purpose, 248 examination centers have been established across the Northern Province.
