Message of Condolence from the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province

We are shocked to hear the news of the passing of Mr. Velayuthan Sivagnanasothy, a native of Sandilipay, Jaffna. His demise is an irreparable loss for our society.

The late Mr.V.Sivagnanasothy possessed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Colombo and a Master of Science degree in Project Planning and Supervision from the University of Bradford, UK, and was a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka.

He had also been the Secretary to various Ministries for the last 10 years. Among them are the Ministry of Northern Resettlement Reconstruction Development and Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Tourism Development and Christian Affairs, the Ministry of National Integration and Reconciliation, the Ministry of Prisons Rehabilitation, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, the Ministry of Estate Infrastructure Development, and the Ministry of Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises.

He had over 30 years of senior-level public sector experience in the areas of development planning, management, national-level supervision, and evaluation. He also took leadership in government evaluation and reviews. He co-chaired the implementation and review process of the Paris Declaration on Financial Effectiveness carried out by the Development Assistance Group Evaluation Network of the Economic Integration Development Agency.

He has finally served as the Secretary to the Ministry of National Policies, Economic Affairs, Resettlement, Reconstruction, Development and Youth Affairs of the Northern Province and as the Secretary to the Presidential Secretariat for the Development of the Northern and Eastern Provinces. He was a member of the Public Service Commission and had been appointed by His Excellency the President.

Our deepest condolences to his family and the soul of Mr. Sivagnanasothy may rest in peace.
