Mannar District Coordinating Committee Meeting was held at the Mannar District Secretariat Auditorium.

The Mannar District Coordinating Committee meeting was held this morning (Tuesday, 26.08.2025) at the Mannar District Secretariat Auditorium, under the chairmanship of the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province and Co-Chairman of the Committee, N. Vethanayahan, together with the Deputy Minister and Chairman of Coordinating Committee, Upali Samarasinghe.

Following the welcome address by the District Secretary, Deputy Minister Upali Samarasinghe, in his opening remarks, stated that sufficient time has been given to the officials and they should be prepared to face the consequences if they fail to act with honesty. He further noted that legal action has been taken against the former President of the country, and the same will apply to officials as well.

The plans requiring the approval of the District Coordination Committee were then presented, followed by a review of the progress made on the matters discussed at the previous meeting.
During the session, extensive discussions were held regarding the issues concerning the Forest Department and the Wildlife Department. The Governor stated that this matter will be brought to the attention of the President, and district-level committees will be established to ensure that the lands belonging to the people will be released.

Various concerns were also raised regarding the transfer of teachers and the non-filling of vacancies for Ayurvedic doctors. In addition, the matter of handing over the Mannar District General Hospital to the Central Government was examined, and a range of views were expressed. Deputy Minister and District Coordinating Committee Chairman, Upali Samarasinghe, stated that responsibility for addressing this issue has been entrusted to the Governor.

The Coordinating Committee meeting was attended by Honorable Parliamentarians P. Sathyalingam, K. Selvam Adaikalanathan, Rishad Bathiudeen, M. Jagatheeswaran, K. Thilaganathan, K. Kadar Masthan, T. Ravikaran, I. Muthu Mohamed, Hon. Chairmen of Pradeshiya Sabhas, Secretaries of Northern Provincial Ministries, Heads of Departments, and Administrative Officers of District Secretariats.
