The inauguration ceremony for paddy cultivation using the parachute method was held on 11.04.2025 in the field of Mr. M. Thevarasa, a farmer from Thandikulam in the Vavuniya district. The event was officially launched by the Vavuniya District Secretary.
The event was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of the Department of Agrarian Services, the Deputy Director of Agriculture in Vavuniya District, the Agrarian Development Officer, the Subject Mater Officer, the Agricultural Instructor and farmers.
In parachute method paddy cultivation, farmers are able to achieve higher yields while reducing production costs, resulting in greater profits. In previous years, this method in the Vavuniya district yielded as much as 7.2 metric tons per hectare.
In this situation, the parachute method is being widely promoted during the Yala 2025 as well. Especially, under the “PSDG” programme, parachute cultivation has been implemented on extent of 60 acres in the Vavuniya district.
