“The government led by the current President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is demonstrating strong commitment to ensuring that education and healthcare services reach people in even the most underserved villages without hindrance. In this context, the Iranai Iluppaikulam Primary Health Care Center can also be considered for future upgrading with improved facilities,” stated the Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Nagalingam Vethanayahan.
The new Dental Unit of the Iranai Iluppaikulam Primary Health Care Center in Mannar District was officially inaugurated this morning – on Thursday 26 March 2026.
The Hon. Governor of the Northern Province, Nagalingam Vethanayahan, made these remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony, which was held under the leadership of the Medical Officer-in-Charge of the hospital, Dr. A.K. Divya.
Continuing his address, the Hon. Governor stated:
“I served as the District Secretary in Mannar for eleven months in 2011. Since then, I have paid special attention to the development of the underserved villages in this area. Last year, during a field visit to a school in Iranai Iluppaikulam, I personally observed the shortcomings of this nearby hospital. Based on those observations, several facilities here have now been improved through special financial allocations.
To prevent people from migrating due to the lack of basic amenities, we must focus on developing our own villages. We are ready to extend all possible support toward that goal. The government led by the His Excellency the president Anura Kumara Dissanayake has shown strong interest in our proposals and is giving positive consideration to all reasonable requests we put forward.
This is a valuable opportunity for us. Let us make the best use of it by ensuring that all essential needs of our villages, including education and healthcare are fulfilled. We must work together to achieve these goals and transform our villages into developed communities,” he said.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several high-ranking government officials, including the District Secretary of Mannar District, the Regional Director of Health Services of Mannar District, the Madhu Divisional Secretary, the Madhu Divisional Medical Officer of Health, the Mannar Regional Dental Officer, and the Assistant Commissioner of Local Government – Mannar District.
